I put a good deal of energy into checking out the latest tools for sale. Recently I found out about the Porter Cable Router Table, and figured that I would see what the buzz is about this router table.
To give you the most accurate view of this table for yourself, in case you’re thinking of ordering it for your shop, I took a look at all the available information about this model. I put it all together and am presenting it to you here in this in depth Porter Cable Router Table Review.
Porter Cable has a good reputation for delivering some of the best tools around at very reasonable prices. And to be totally honest with you, it’s the price of the Router Table that initially caught my attention.
This router table is priced considerably lower than other comparable router tables. And since nothing piques the interest of tool buyers more than a low price tag, I had to see why Porter Cable is selling this router table for such a ridiculously low price.
Router Tables: Key Features
Before we get on to the full Porter Cable Router Table review, let’s break down some of the key features that you’d expect to get from the best router tables on the market.
- Stability. If a router table isn’t stable and sturdy, it’s not going to help you out much on complicated routing or other woodworking projects.
- A good fence. When you’re using a router or doing any kind of woodworking, a reliable, true and easy to adjust fence is an absolute must.
- Working area. The best router tables should offer you enough room to work on larger pieces without feeling too crowded while you use your router.
Now, let’s talk about how it measures up in each of these key categories…
As far as router tables go, the Porter Cable Router Table certainly isn’t the most stable or sturdy table around. Now, that’s not saying that this table isn’t stable enough to be used for serious routing jobs – because it is stable enough for most at-home projects.
However, there are other router tables that cost just a bit more that are more solidly constructed and better suited for complicated routing projects. If I had to give this model a star rating for stability, I’d give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
How About the Fence?
This is one feature of the Porter Cable Router Table that really proved to be disappointing. This router table’s fence is way to complicated and clumsy to adjust. I suppose that it would do an okay job on projects that don’t call for precise, true cuts.
But how often do you have to work on projects where precision doesn’t matter. The clumsy design of the Table’s fence is a flaw that simply can’t be overlooked.
Again, if I had to give the fence a star rating, I’d give it 1.5 or 2 stars out of 5. Just not what I was expecting top of line router table.
How’s the Table in Terms of Space?
I can’t complain about the working space as this router table provides a large, 19.75” by 16.75 inch space for you to work on all your woodworking projects. That’s plenty of space; especially when you consider that it is more or less a portable router table.
No, this certainly isn’t the largest table around, but it should suffice for most do-it-yourselfers out there. For working space, I’d give the Porter Cable Router Table a 4 out of star rating.

Having done research on lots of router tables, I do have to say that the Porter Cable Router Table clearly isn’t one of my top picks.
This router table may suffice for folks who don’t really do a lot of serious woodworking. But it is not something that a person who takes their tools seriously would want in their shop.
I also checked out lots of online customer reviews for this Router Table. Here are some quotes from a few of the 30+ reviews that I found online:
- “Porter Cable Drops the Ball…”
- “Difficult to set up, but does the job.”
- “This worked great!”
As you can see, the online reviewers were split down the middle on the Porter Cable Router Table. Given what I’ve found during my research, I’d have to give the Porter Cable an overall score of 3.5 out of 5 stars, which is just a shade under the actual average score of 3.6 out of 5 stars.
The Porter Cable Router Table certainly isn’t the worst router table I’ve seen, but it’s not on par with some of the other tables in this class. Only newbie woodworkers should purchase this router table for their shops or garages. Read more…
